Hi,
I’m currently working through the “Google Certified Professional Cloud Architect Practice Exams” and I keep running into issues with questions about cloud run and Google App Engine.
I’m not quite sure if the question set is up-to-date and what the official exam stance on it is, I have a few doubts about the answers.
While from an isolated standpoint it’s correct to use App Engine, the official documentation states:
“For new Google Cloud users, we recommend using Cloud Run as the preferred alternative over App Engine.”
(Source: https://docs.cloud.google.com/appengine/migration-center/run/compare-gae-with-run“Is that still in accordance with the official exam, or are the exams already updated in that regard? Should my answers reflect the official standpoint, or still recommend App Engine?
Will the content of the practice reflect this at some point?Thank you so much!

Hello sebo,
Thank you for reaching out and sharing your feedback.
Could you kindly provide us with the specific snippet of the questions you encountered so we can review them?

Hi JR,
sorry for the late response. Sure, I have one example here:
You manage a global SaaS platform serving thousands of customers across various industries. As the company expands, you’ve decided to outsource parts of your operations functions to a third-party provider. Your team frequently pushes new features and fixes to the cloud-based application. You need a solution that enables developers to stage new application versions quickly and allows the outsourced operations team to promote those versions to production autonomously. The goal is to minimize the operational overhead and ensure that the new versions can be deployed smoothly and efficiently, without requiring constant intervention from your internal teams.
Which Google Cloud service should you migrate to to streamline the version deployment process and minimize operational overhead? As answer, Google App Engine is listed.
However, adhering to the current documentation this should be Cloud Run.
Hope this helps!

Hi Sebo,
Thank you for following up and for providing the specific question. We apologize for the confusion this has caused.
We understand your concern. The current Google Cloud documentation does recommend Cloud Run as the preferred alternative to App Engine for new Google Cloud users, so we agree that this question should be reviewed in light of the current guidance.
That said, the scenario in this question focuses specifically on application version management and allowing an operations team to independently promote versions to production. The original answer for Google App Engine was based on App Engine’s built-in version management and traffic migration capabilities. However, given the evolution of Google Cloud’s recommendations and the capabilities of Cloud Run, we agree that the question and explanation should be reassessed to ensure they accurately reflect the current platform guidance and the expectations of the Professional Cloud Architect exam.
We’ll have our content team review this question, including the answer choices and explanation, against the latest Google Cloud documentation and exam objectives. If an update is warranted, we’ll make the necessary changes.
We truly appreciate you taking the time to provide the specific example and supporting documentation. Feedback like this helps us keep our practice exams accurate and aligned with the latest cloud technologies.
