I got following question while practicing the exam.

An organization is planning on migrating hundreds of on-premises servers to Azure Virtual Machines. You must recommend the best instance size options for the VMs to optimize performance and cost efficiency after the migration phase. The solution must minimize administrative effort.

    What should you recommend?
    A. Azure Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator
    B. Azure Virtual Machines Scale Sets
    C. Azure Migrate
    D. Azure Advisor

I chose Azure Advisor and it was prompted as wrong showing Azure Migrate is the right answer.
And the Justification given is not inline with the answer.

As per My understanding, Question is about the Post Migration phase. Azure Migrate is useful during the Migration phase , while Azure Advisor is post migration.

    Hello Anish Adhikari,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this item.

The question is focused on the stage where the organization is moving hundreds of on‑premises servers into Azure and needs to determine the right VM sizes to optimize performance and cost efficiency. That activity falls under migration planning, which is exactly what Azure Migrate is designed for.

Azure Migrate provides assessments to determine Azure readiness, right‑sizing, cost estimation, and dependency analysis as part of the planning phase after the decision to migrate.

    Please refer to this: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/migrate/migrate-services-overview?view=migrate#plan

Let me know if this helps.

        Hello ily,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. You’re correct that the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) Calculator has been deprecated. We will make the necessary updates, which should be reflected on the portal soon.

For reference, please refer to this: https://acom-sandbox.azure.net/en-us/pricing/tco/calculator/

Thanks, actually the entire AZ-104 set should be reviewed if possible. I saw there a question about the Linux diagnostic Extension https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/virtual-machines/extensions/diagnostics-linux, which is also getting deprecated in March 2026.

            Hello ily,

Thank you for the feedback. We will make the necessary updates, and the changes should be reflected on the portal soon. We’ll also review the entire AZ‑104 set to ensure all questions remain aligned with current Microsoft guidance, including upcoming deprecations such as the Linux Diagnostic Extension.
