Hi team,
Looking at this question, why would we use Kanban boards instead of Scrum? If the question would not have specified that “and track the progress of tasks throughout the sprint”, then we could have used Kanban, but when you introduce Sprints in the discussion, I don’t. see why would you use Kanban. We use these everyday. Kanban for long term stuff, Scrum for sprints. What am I missing here?
Cheers.

Hi VainCushion,
Great question, you’re right that Scrum boards are typically used to manage sprint tasks, while Kanban is often associated with continuous work. The key here lies in framing the exam question: “create a clear visual representation of the work items to enhance collaboration and transparency… and track the progress of tasks throughout the sprint.”
Kanban boards in Azure DevOps are specifically built to visualize workflow, showing work items moving across stages such as To Do → In Progress → Done. While Scrum boards emphasize sprint commitments and backlog management, Kanban boards are the primary tool Azure DevOps highlights for workflow visualization. They make it easy to see bottlenecks, task progress, and overall sprint status at a glance, directly addressing the “visual representation” aspect of the question.
In practice, teams often use both together:
-
Scrum boards → managing sprint commitments and backlog.
-
Kanban boards → visualizing the flow of work items throughout the sprint.
That’s why, in this case, the correct answer is Kanban Boards.

Hi Nikee,
And thanks for the explanation. Reviewed again the Boards section. Yeah, I was thinking about Jira and it’s boards, and I am now realizing I was using the terms super wrong. I was thinking of a Kanban board, but not used in a Kanban way necessarly, but Kanban board with Sprints, which some of us do in Jira actually. The sprint will have the same look as a Kanban board, with progress tracking and so on, but it’s still a … Kanban board. 😅
So yeah, thanks for taking the time.
Cheers!

Hi VainCushion,
Totally get where you’re coming from, it’s a common mix-up, especially with tools like Jira that blur the lines between Scrum and Kanban boards visually. You’re right, even when running sprints, the board looks Kanban-style with columns like To Do, In Progress, and Done — but it’s still managing sprint-based work.
Glad the explanation helped clarify things a bit. You’re definitely on the right track now. If you need any clarification, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
Cheers,
