AZ-900 vague question with even weirder answers
-
Hi, just passed another test exam for Az-900 but I’m really confused by one of the questions and it’s answers, reasoning and to be honest don’t think MS would ask it… could someone please flesh it out please for me and explain a little more?
“An organization is migrating its servers to Azure.
The organization plans to reduce the following on-premises datacenter responsibilities of its administrators:
- Patching
security vulnerabilities- Managing
on-premises datacenter security- Backup
of sensitive data.- Managing
permissions of its data- Procurement
of additional server hardware- Maintenance
of cooling systemsWhich three responsibilities above should you identify? (Select THREE.)
- Managing
on-premises datacenter security- Maintenance
of cooling systems- Patching
security vulnerabilities- Backup
of sensitive data.- Managing
permissions of its data- Procurement
of additional server hardware”Thanks

Hi Grant,
Could you share a bit more about what feels vague or unusual in the question? Is it the wording itself or the way the answer options are presented that seems off?
You mentioned “to be honest don’t think MS would ask it” — but the topic itself is explicitly part of the AZ‑900 exam guide under Describe cloud concepts. Because it’s highlighted in the guide, we should expect that this type of question (understanding which responsibilities shift to Microsoft and which remain with you) will appear in the actual exam.

Hi, after I posted this I saw the same question in another part of the forum here:
https://portal.tutorialsdojo.com/forums/discussion/unclear-question/And again it’s not really been answered as it’s still phrased a year later in a way that others have answered the wrong way as well, knowing what was missing from the chage from in house to cloud but answering the opposite because of how it reads?
It’s the only question that I think is unfairly written that I’ve come across. This was more to let you know it’s a frustrating one, when you know the tech involved but not which way to answer because the question reads odd…Thanks

Hello Grant,
Thank you for sharing the link. The phrase “The organization plans to reduce the following on-premises datacenter responsibilities of its administrators” is the key clue pointing to the correct answers. In this context, “reduce” means that these responsibilities will be eliminated once the servers are migrated to Azure.
The wording “on-premises datacenter responsibilities” is crucial because it specifies tasks related to physical infrastructure, such as hardware procurement, cooling systems, and datacenter security. These responsibilities will entirely disappear with the transition to Azure, while other tasks, like patching, backups, and permission management, will continue to be the customer’s responsibility under the shared responsibility model.
To avoid any confusion, and as requested, we will update the wording to clarify the intent. The revised version should be reflected on the portal soon.
Let us know if you need further assistance.
