EFS storage class transition error

For the question
A company plans to host a web application in an Auto Scaling group of Amazon EC2 instances. The application will be used globally by users to upload and store several types of files. Based on user trends, files that are older than 2 years must be stored in a different storage class. The Solutions Architect of the company needs to create a cost-effective and scalable solution to store the old files yet still provide durability and high availability.
The explanation for the answer claims “Take note that Amazon EFS can only transition a file to the IA storage class after 90 days.”
This doesn’t seem accurate. The default is the transition a file to IA after 30 days, and this can be configured down to 1 day.

Hi Sayler,
Thank you for flagging this and for providing the screenshot — great catch!
You are absolutely correct. The original explanation stating that “Amazon EFS can only transition a file to the IA storage class after 90 days” was inaccurate. That figure actually refers to the default transition period for the EFS Archive storage class, not the IA storage class. As your screenshot confirms, the default transition into IA is 30 days since last access, and it can be configured as low as 1 day.
We’ve updated the explanation to reflect the correct information. The maximum transition period for EFS lifecycle policies is 365 days. Since the requirement is to move files older than 2 years (730 days), EFS still cannot meet this requirement even at its maximum configuration, which is why the option remains incorrect, just for the right reason.
We appreciate you taking the time to research and share the supporting evidence. Feedback like yours helps us keep our content accurate and up to date!
The updated explanation will be reflected on the portal soon. Feel free to reach out if you have any other questions. Good luck on your exam! 🎯
