Thank you for pointing this out.

Pass-through Authentication is only used to validate cloud sign-ins against the on-premises Active Directory. It does not write cloud password changes or password resets back to the on-premises AD environment.

For cloud-based password resets to be synchronized back to on-premises Active Directory, password writeback must be enabled in Microsoft Entra Connect or Microsoft Entra Cloud Sync. Therefore, the proposed solution using Pass-through Authentication does not meet the requirement.
