Scheduled reserved instances no longer seem to be supported. https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/ec2-scheduled-instances.html

This question (found in the EC2 topic based quizzes) may be out of date.

Category: CSAA – Design Cost-Optimized Architectures

A multinational corporate and investment bank is regularly processing steady workloads of accruals, loan interests, and other critical financial calculations every night at 10 PM to 3 AM on their on-premises data center for their corporate clients. Once the process is done, the results are then uploaded to the Oracle General Ledger which means that the processing should not be delayed nor interrupted. The CTO has decided to move their IT infrastructure to AWS to save cost and to improve the scalability of their digital financial services.

As the Senior Solutions Architect, how can you implement a cost-effective architecture in AWS for their financial system?

Answer marked as correct: Use Scheduled Reserved Instances, which provide compute capacity that is always available on the specified recurring schedule.

Thanks JM. Seems like this has been the case for over 10 months, though I can’t find the official AWS announcement about retiring scheduled reserved instances (https://www.reddit.com/r/aws/comments/mxrgvm/about_scheduled_reserved_instances/). How often does your team audit the testing material? I read rave reviews about the Jon Bonso tests, so I bought them… but I’m 10-odd questions into your materials and I’m seriously doubting my purchase. It also seems like the cheatsheets don’t incorporate the latest updates, one specific example being that the S3 and S3 Glacier cheat sheets don’t mention the restructuring of S3 Glacier (Instant and Flexible Retrieval), which AWS introduced all the way back in November 2021.
