I am quite surprised by the answer of this question:

A company manages an on-premises Server Message Block (SMB) file server, which is used to store large files. These files are typically accessed within the first 10 days after they are created. After this period, the files will no longer be accessed. However, the company requires that they remain accessible with a maximum retrieval time of 12 hours.

Which solution will meet these requirements?

One of the wrong answer is:
The option that says: Setup an Amazon FSx File Gateway. Configure an Amazon S3 Lifecycle policy to transition the data to S3 Glacier Deep Archive after 10 days is incorrect because FSx File Gateway is a gateway for file system solutions like Windows File Server or OpenZFS and not for S3.

But from what I interpret the context, the files are in a Server Message Block (SMB) file server which meanly used on windows, right ?
So why rejecting this solution ?
By the way how to transfer files from the Server Message Block (SMB) to s3 ?

    Hello jgofaws,

    Thanks for the feedback.

Amazon FSx File Gateway is designed specifically to provide access to Amazon FSx file systems, such as Amazon FSx for Windows File Server and Amazon FSx for Lustre. It is best suited for scenarios that require connecting on-premises environments to cloud-based file systems that natively support formats like Windows File Server and OpenZFS. However, in this case, FSx File Gateway is not an appropriate choice, as it is primarily intended for FSx file systems rather than direct integration with Amazon S3.

On the other hand, Amazon S3 File Gateway is purpose-built to enable file-based access to Amazon S3. It supports connections via SMB and NFS protocols, making it a more suitable option for this scenario. Given that the company currently operates an SMB file server and aims to transfer data to Amazon S3 rather than an FSx file system, S3 File Gateway is the preferred solution. –

While FSx File Gateway works with Windows File Server, it lacks the S3 functionality needed for transitioning data to S3 Glacier Deep Archive.

I hope this helps! Let us know if you need further assistance.
