    Hi,

in the following question : “A solutions architect is designing a cost-efficient, highly available storage solution for company data. One of the requirements is to ensure that the previous state of a file is preserved and retrievable if a modified version of it is uploaded. Also, to meet regulatory compliance, data over 3 years must be retained in an archive and will only be accessible once a year.

How should the solutions architect build the solution?”

The solution suggest is the following: “Create an S3 Standard bucket with S3 Object Lock in compliance mode enabled then configure a lifecycle rule that transfers files to Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive after 3 years.” But for me the correcet answer is: “Create an S3 Standard bucket with object-level versioning enabled and configure a lifecycle rule that transfers files to Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive after 3 years” because the queston because the question doesn’t talk about blocking file changes.

Can someone help me to see if my observation is correct?

    Regards

    Hello giadasalvatori,

You’re correct that enabling object-level versioning and setting up a lifecycle rule to transfer files to Amazon S3 Glacier Deep Archive preserves file states and is cost-effective.

However, regulatory compliance often requires not only data retention but also ensuring data cannot be modified or deleted. This is where S3 Object Lock in compliance mode is crucial, as it makes the data immutable and unalterable.

While the solution you’ve mentioned addresses versioning and archival needs, adding S3 Object Lock in compliance mode ensures adherence to stricter compliance requirements.

Note that AWS exam questions can be tricky and ambiguous. They often require careful attention to keywords or phrases. We’re mimicking this style in our practice tests.

So, while the question doesn’t directly mention blocking file changes, the requirement for regulatory compliance usually necessitates such measures.

I hope this helps! Feel free to let us know if you need further assistance.

    Best Regards,
