Review Mode Set 4 – Question Inquiry
-
One of the questions from set 4 ask the following: “What is an advantage of cloud computing when it comes to equipment expenditures?”
I selected the option “You can easily scale and manage the number of resources running in your cloud environment.” based on: AWS Well-Architected Framework – Cost Optimization Pillar and the cost savings benefits of cloud computing which “eliminates capital expense”
However the option selected as correct is “AWS introduces cost reductions each year in their services.” but I can’t find documentation that validates this answer. While AWS offer lower prices, the question specifically asks about equipment expenditures (capital cost when setting up hardware). Lower service pricing refers to operational cost savings, but that is after we are already in the cloud.
I would appreciate if you can clarify since the option selected doesn’t match the question being asked.

Hello carobonita!
First of all, thank you for using our AWS CCP Practice Exam!
To answer your query, you raised a valid point that the option “You can easily scale and manage the number of resources running in your cloud environment.” is the correct answer, especially when relating it to the benefit of cloud computing by eliminating the initial capital expense in physical hardware, offering you flexibility by paying only for what you need.
However, the original answer which is “AWS introduces cost reductions each year in their services.” was considered as the correct answer because it explicitly mentions cost savings, making it the only option in the question that tackles the primary keyword in the question which is “expenditures“. While the option you argued can be thought of as a valid answer since it can be related to eliminating capital expenses, the original thought of the option “You can easily scale and manage the number of resources running in your cloud environment.” tackles primarily the flexibility and scalability of cloud computing, not the cost aspect. Since the question is about “expenditure” and the original answer is the only option that addresses “cost reductions”, it is the most suitable answer.
You can refer to this official AWS blog page, which shows AWS’s history of cost reduction each year in their services: https://aws.amazon.com/blogs/aws/category/price-reduction/
