    Hi,

I wanted to know is it is possible to use mobile hotspot connected to laptop for internet connection during the AWS online exam using Pearson Vue? On the pearson vue website (https://home.pearsonvue.com/aws/onvue) FAQ section, it is written that “tethering to a mobile hotspot is prohibited”. Also on the tutorialsdojo website (https://tutorialsdojo.com/how-to-book-and-take-your-aws-certification-exam-online-saa-c02/) under the “important notes” section, it is written the same.

However, the mobile hotspot connection which I will be using in my laptop is very reliable and provides 4G with good speed. I have successfully run and passed the pearson vue system checks using the same hotspot connection. On the other hand, the wired connection which I have is very unreliable and frequently suffers outages due to problems at the provider’s end.

Does the pearson onvue software detects and fully prohibits mobile hotspot connections on exam day? Is there any mechanism inbuilt the software to do so during test? Coz I have successfully passed system checks using the same hotspot connection. If anybody has done so, please enlighten me. Thanks!

    Hi Tarun,

I’m not sure if it is allowed but you can try to use a Pocket WiFi device ( e.g. wifi modem/dongle) where you insert your SIM card. If you connect to your phone via a mobile hotspot, you will see that your network icon is different but if you use Pocket WiFi, the network icon is the same as you would have if you are connected to a regular WiFi.

Once again, it’s better to contact Pearson Vue about this and the suggestion that I presented here might not totally work, so please proceed with caution. I highly suggest that you raise this to Pearson Vue if this method is acceptable.

All the best in your exam!

    Cheers,

    Jon Bonso

      Hi Jon,

Thanks for replying. May I know which network icon you are talking about? Is it the one displayed on the task bar in bottom right of the screen? Coz, the same icon is displayed there when I connect to wifi or mobile hotspot.

Also, I just wanted to let you know that I have successfully run and passed the system test using the same hotspot. The system test is going to be the same on exam day as well right?

      Thanks!
