    Hello adam-chou,

    Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

Our team will review this and try to make a revision if needed. Still, let me explain why only the DEV account benefits from the Reserved Pricing.

Since the question asks which account benefits the most out of the Reserved Instance pricing, we can take the important key points in the scenario:

    – The Pharmaceutical company has 3 different AWS accounts: DEV, UAT, and PROD, which are all part of the consolidated billing account.

    – The PROD account has purchased 10 r4.16xlarge Reserved EC2 Instances in the us-west-2a Availability Zone. Currently, there is no running EC2 instance in the PROD account

    – But in the DEV account, there are 5 r4.16xlarge EC2 instances running in the us-west-2a Availability Zone.

    – In the UAT account, there are also 5 r4.16xlarge EC2 instances running in the us-west-1a Availability Zone.

In the given key points, we can see that only the DEV account uses the Reserved Instance in the us-west-2a Availability Zone. Based on this consolidated billing AWS Documentation, “The pricing benefits of Reserved Instances are shared when the purchasing account is billed under a consolidated billing payer account. The instance usage across all member accounts is aggregated in the payer account every month.

Take note that there are questions in the actual AWS exam that are difficult, tricky, and ambiguous. You have to be prepared to look for specific keywords or key phrases in order to find the most suitable answer. This is the style that we are trying to mimic in our practice tests. Some of the questions do not explicitly show the obvious keywords or phrases that will easily point to the answer.
