A SysOps Administrator needs to produce regular reports and statistics on EC2 resource consumption across different regions. In an upcoming meeting, the Administrator is asked to present these findings to the CTO and Data Analytics team. Aggregating these statistics would detail a lot of information on resource consumption with ease.

I’m a bit confused why this part of the AWS docs doesn’t apply in this case – “Aggregate statistics are available for instances that have detailed monitoring enabled …. Before you can get statistics aggregated across instances, you must enable detailed monitoring (at an additional charge)” doesn’t apply here

    https://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/GetSingleMetricAllDimensions.html

As best as I can tell either I don’t understand something or i’m misinterpreting the question, since it sounds like the aggregation is being applied across EC2s which (as best I can tell) isn’t possible without detailed monitoring according to AWS docs.

    Hello Stephen,

Although you can get aggregated values of instances’ metrics using the detailed monitoring feature, it only works for instances contained in a single region. Aggregating metrics across different regions can easily be done using metric math (even without enabling detailed monitoring). I attached a screenshot of how it looks in the CW console:

Let me know if this helps.

    Regards.
